Greetings,

Welcome to the new year! Our wish for you is a healthy and fulfilling 2008.

 The wheels on our wall

The wheels above the fireplace in our lobby are from a water buffalo cart which was used to carry grain to market in the Phillipines. Rosewood was used for its dense grain which rarely cracked.

We purchased them from Tucker Robbins, a former monk turned world traveler turned designer, who travels to remote communities, like the Sagada Mountain province in the Philippines, to find furnishings made by local craftsman.

At Tucker Robbins, they only use natural oils which takes on a rich patina as it burnishes naturally. Robbins is a Founding Member of the Sustainable Furniture Council.

It's an interesting story! You can read a magazine article here, or visit the Tucker Robbins web site.

And you can click on the photo to see our lobby.

 Say hello to Nick

Nick Tabbert is the new sales manager at Evensong Spa. After graduating from the Denver School of Massage Therapy, he worked at Massage Envy. Nick actually started at Evensong Spa when we first opened in 2006 and now will assist groups in planning their spa experience.

Nick is married to Jennifer and they have a seven- month-old son, Colson. When I asked Nick why he enjoys working at Evensong, he said, "I'm happy to be at the spa because of the fantastic, talented staff, and the tranquil beauty of the spa and surrounding areas."

Caring for the sensitive skin around your eyes

To reduce dark circles around your eyes, get at least seven to eight hours sleep every night. Sleeping with your head slightly elevated helps by working against gravity; which causes fluid to collect in your lower eyelids.

Use an eye cream around the eyes to keep moisture in the skin.

When you apply cream or make up around your eyes, use your ring finger: It exerts less pressure than your other fingers.

Don't rub your eyes frequently because you could get an eye infection which could also cause an infection in the skin around your eyes. Why? Because few of us think to wash our hands before touching our eyes.

Remove eye makeup carefully. Use a soft sponge, cotton cloth or cotton balls to avoid damaging the delicate tissue around your eyes.

"Never make your home in a place. Make a home for yourself inside your own head. You'll find what you need to furnish it -- memory, friends you can trust, love of learning, and other such things. That way it will go with you wherever you journey."
